A very abridged history, 2020. 20” x 26”, mixed media on Yupo. Documentation by Berkeley Giclee and Robert Gomez Hernandez.
A very abridged history is a mixed-media cartographic drawing that attempts to trace the origins — and migratory movements — of important food staples in the US over the past 500 years, highlighting the ways in which the violent history of colonization and globalization are embodied in the humble diasporic seed, and the ways in which agricultural and geopolitical histories have always been intertwined.
A 20” x 26” giclee print of this drawing is currently available for purchase as part of a fundraiser and Patreon campaign to support the artist-run space Dream Farm Commons in Oakland, CA. 100% of the proceeds will go toward Dream Farm Commons.
