2019 — ongoing; text printed on semi-translucent vellum; 52 pages, 5.5” x 5.75”. Documentation by Rohan DaCosta.
Millennium Flowers Catalog is an ongoing artist’s book project in the guise of a speculative seed catalog. It is intended for use as a loose script and “survival manual” for the apocalyptic world presented by my film project The Lonely Age.
I first self-published a 52-page prototype in May 2019 for my MFA thesis exhibition at the Berkeley Art Museum and have since also exhibited it at the Feminist and Queer Art Book Fair, presented by AIR Gallery (New York) in 2020. This “catalogue” consisted of proposals for new varieties of “seeds” (in the form of watercolor sketches), fables, and snippets of speculative fiction fleshing out the world of The Lonely Age.
I am currently in the process of collating more rumors and fables, developing "seed" varieties, and compiling archival research regarding the trans-Pacific circulation of plant material, specifically in the context of U.S. imperialist biopiracy.
The first run of the physical chapbook has been sold out, but please email me at iam.czheng@gmail.com if you are interested in obtaining a free PDF copy or to be added to a mailing list for future print runs. I have made one of the stories in the chapbook publicly available here.
