Mothers is a series of speculative “altar” paintings used in the world of The lonely age. The figures in these paintings are intended to be imagined versions of the magical rogue “seeds” that have captured the imaginations of the people narrating the world of The lonely age. These images reference Southern Chinese religious paintings of Daoist deities, many of whom are still kept alive in the memories of the people of the Hokkien region, from where my father’s family originates.
